The Lion

The lion considered “The king of the Animals” is one of the four big cats in the genus panther. Lion is a member of the Felidae Family.

 It’s the second largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions are mostly found in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Their species in danger and a very small portion is surviving after destruction in Gir forest national park in India. Its almost vanishes from North Africa and Southwest Asia in historic times.

About thousand years ago, the lion was the most populated mammal after human.

They were mostly found in Africa across Eurasia from Western Europe to India. In America they were found Yukon to Peru.

The lion is capable of being wounded that’s why its population is reduced thirty to fifty percent from past two decades only in Africa region.

The cause of decline of this species is not yet concluded. There are may be more than are issues top whom this species is facing (off). It may be habitat loss or clashes with humans. Even in will life every male fight with other male lions to maintain or gain Kingdom. Then mostly fighting with prey like wild mounds or with elephants injures them. There injuries are also cows of decline of this species.

Average age of this species is 20 years. But it may depend on circumstances. It this species is in captivity, than better look after and zero percentage of injuries increase their age from ton to twenty years approximately.

While in wild life their age limit decrease to ten years.

 In this species, male lions hunt alone while female lions attack in groups with better strategy. Lions are considered as top and keystone plundering, though they scavenge as opportunity allows.

Lion don’t hunt humans commonly. But some incidents came to know. Male lion are easily recognized by its long hair on neck and form its wide face. From the upper Paleolithic period, with sculpture and paintings from chauvet and Lascaux cows, presence of lions is proved.

It has been extensively describe in paintings and carvings on national flags and in different films and cultures.

 Lions have been kept in Zoo from ancient t roman’s history. Since last eighteenth century.

Zoos are working world widely for the up breeding of the lions in Asiatic regions. The lion name is derived from the Latin word Leo and from ancient Greek Leon. Genus Penthra is a species of lion and tiger, Jaguar and leopard are other species of this genus.
